How we make our maps

Each map answers one question for one city, such as the best biryani in Hyderabad. It pins the places locals keep recommending, says why they recommend them and what they warn about, and links every place to the original comments so you can read them yourself.

Public Reddit threads, mostly in the city's own subreddit, where people name places and say what they think of them. We read every comment in those threads and record, for each place, who recommends it, who warns against it and why.

A place's location, address and whether it is still open come from public map listings. We never use their star ratings or review text.

• At least five different people recommend it.
• At least as many people recommend it as warn against it.
• A smaller place that draws warnings from at least half as many people as recommend it is held back.
• Comments older than three years don't count.
• Places that look closed, or whose listing has shown no activity for two years, are held back.
• Well-known places people are split on aren't pinned; some maps name them in their introduction.

Summaries are drafted with AI from the cited comments only. Each claim is then checked against those comments, and every summary is read in full before it is published. Counts are literal: "two people" means two. We paraphrase, never copy.

• Star ratings and review text from map listings.
• Exact prices and amounts. We only say when people call a place cheap or expensive.
• One person's claim about a place stated as fact.
• Remarks about individual staff.
• Health, hygiene or safety anecdotes about a named business. When several people raise cleanliness, we say so in one neutral line.
• Commenters' names in summaries. Each cited comment shows its Reddit author and links to it.

We never take payment for a place. No place can pay to be added, moved up or removed.

The Bengaluru kids activities map is built differently: from public business listings, not Reddit comments, and its pages say so.

Maps are refreshed as new threads appear, and each page shows when it was last updated. If a place has closed or something is wrong, write to support@mapswemade.com.
